Humber Board of Governors selects the name 'Humber'

November 1, 1966

The name ‘Humber’ was selected by the first Board of Governors of Humber College. Each board member had compiled a list of potential names and Humber was found in five or six individual lists.  The name is particularly appropriate for the area served by the College since the Humber river system traversed the boroughs of York and Etobicoke.  The name received formal approval from the Council of Regents when it was published in the Ontario Gazette on January 7, 1967.
